A day at Bijli Mahadev temple

Basic information :

Bijli Mahadev is one of the sacred temples of the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. It is located at an altitude of about 2,460m in the Kullu Valley. Bijli Mahadev is one of the excellent temples in India. Located 22 km from Kullu across the Beas river, it can be approached by a rewarding trek of 3 km.

A panoramic view of Kullu and Paravati valleys can be seen from the temple. The 60 feet high staff of Bijli Mahadev temple glistens like a silver needle in the sun.
In this temple of lightning, it is said that the tall staff attracts the divine blessings in the form of lightning. It is believed that the priest of the temple has to restore the Shiva linga placed inside the temple using butter after every lightning as it shatters to pieces with flash of lightning.
The place is too scenic due to the location of the temple which is at the top most end of the Mathan hill. There are mobile towers beside the temple (downside) towards Parvati valley, so connectivity is not an issue.

Live from Bijli Mahadev ;)

A building is meant for accommodation (rest rooms) for the visitors just beside the temple. There is no fixed price (rate not available) for the accommodation. 10 people can stay at a time in the building.

The trek is beautiful with jungles, orchids and small villages on the way. By the time you reach the top, your lungs will definitely ask you for rest but you will find it irresistible to admire the beauty that you see.

How to get there :

Kullu-Manali Airport at Bhuntar: 30 km by road + 3 km trek on foot
Kullu town: 20 km + 3 km trek on foot
Manali town: 50 km + 3 km trek on foot
The temple has to be reached by a trek through a 3 km long path covered with pine trees. The surroundings and the sceneries that one witnesses during the trek make it breathtakingly beautiful and refreshing rather than tiring. People who cannot trek, there is one more motorable road to reach Bijli Mahadev from Naggar side via Jana Waterfall. One has to reach Naggar from Kullu or Manali. From this route, people will reach the temple directly. Motor cycles are preferred for transportation in this route but small motor vehicles too can travel safely.

You will easily get a cab that can take you very close to the temple and would cost you around ₹1000 from Kullu bus stand and back. If you are on a budget trip take a bus that would cost you around ₹25 from Kullu bus stand. Well, reaching there isn't a big deal if you are a experienced trekker. I would suggest to trek to Bijli Mahadev for some fun and adventure. If you are travelling by local bus, be sure to turn back and reach the bus boarding point before its dark and enquire for bus timings beforehand.

Things to do :

1)Once atop, enjoy the mesmerizing view of the valleys around.
2)Breathe free, enjoy the pollution free pure air.
3)Do a live video on facebook and make your friends jealous.
4) Enjoy hot bowl of maggi and a cup of Kahwa tea from the local shops.
